We were asked to design and build a desk for the clients new office location. They wanted to have a live edge desk that had a lot of character and dark blue highlights. After finalizing on a design, we reclaimed some very heavily spalted sycamore wood from a local sawmill and went to work. The wood needed a lot of love, since it was so drastically spalted (spalting is a variety of fungus that begins to claim parts of the wood to take over) the wood required a lot of EcoPoxy FlowCast Liquid Plastic resin for stability and strength, in addition we used the EcoPoxy Metallic Mica Powder Pigment, Ocean color to create the serene flow in the knots, gaps and recesses of the wood. We fabricated the steel legs and painted them a dark blue to go with the feel of the desk. The office now has a piece of the outdoors inside and a reminder that would have been discarded is now an elegant piece of furniture. What would you like to preserve and cherish?
